Black///White

Little B l a c k + w h i t e dresses!

Images: Lula magazine

I finally got around to buying Lula issue 11 yesterday, and my lord was it worth the wait!
I was so happy to see all the editorials I've been stalking online in the flesh, and I love Rodarte, so Kate and Laura Mulleavy guest-editing was definitely my cup of tea...but more on Lula later.
The one thing from issue 11 that inspired me the most was Rachel Antonoff's beautiful article "White Chalk" about white dresses.

I started thinking about how much I really do love a white dress. They are, perhaps my favourite colour to wear in a dress, besides pale blue. Something about a beautiful white dress simultaneously labels the wearer romantic and haunting when done right. I then started to think about the white dresses' counterpart, the black dress. When I say black dress I don't mean a 'LBD' tight mini dress...but a dress that has the potential to be as whimsical and romantic as the white dress.

So here is my list of favourite Black and White dresses!
1. Black dress from Duskin. I have the flat lay image of the dress and have made collages from it before because it has such a beautiful, simple shape with interesting textured fabrication.

2. White dress from Secret Squirrel. T
his dress is just about my favourite Secret Squirrel dress ever. It also comes in black, which is beautiful as well...but the white is basically perfection. The bell sleeves, the lace insertion, the subtle waist, the floaty skirt, the silhouette, ah! It's just my kind of dress. On second thought, this may be my favourite dress. Ever.
3. Black dress from Lover. How amazing is this dress!? This is the very height of whimsy. The sleeves alone make me want to attend a pagan ritual in haunted grounds. It reminds me of something Stevie Nicks would love to wear on stage while singing Rhiannon, which is always a good sign in my book! Unfortunately it's far too expensive for me, valued at over one thousand dollars :(

4. TBA white dress. This is just about the most perfect Edwardian-inspired white dress...I also love the printed version of this dress. I've been deliberating buying it since the collection aired so maybe that's a sign I should take the plunge and invest?

5. Black dress from Lover. This is the 'ritual pin tuck dress' which is from my favourite Lover collection, Lovebomb. I think this dress officially names Lover the best go-to brand for black dresses. It is so simple and sweet but at the same time not too 'little girl' due to the midnight shade of it which is just perfect.

6. White dress from Strummer. Strummer is quickly becoming one of my new favourite Australian labels. The latest collection is so amazing (blog soon on it!) This whole outfit is just me all over. The pin tucks on the sleeves, the buttons down the bodice and the general silhouette make me so curious at to this price of this beauty...this would also make an amazing investment piece!

J a n u a r y dream o u t f i t s !

These are some dream outfits I created...I am really looking forward to wearing more clog-type shoes, crystal jewelery and feminine dresses. The Sydney weather is completely crazy at the moment. For the past four or five days it has been around thirty degrees, proper summer weather...but then this cold (and by 'cold' I mean non-summer) twenty degree weather follows. It's annoying that it kind of breaks the summer mood, but it is great because it gives reason to wear chunky knit sweaters with shorts, or a summer-ey dress with stockings.

A girl can dream...

D r e a m
Christmas
W i s h l i s t !

i. A Papillionaire bicycle. (This is the bicycle of my dreams!)

Normally, I do little post around Christmas time with a little wish list of all the things I am hoping to preview here on the blog after Christmas. This year I've decided to do a make believe wishlist of all the things I would want for Christmas if I were a millionaire. It's much more fun this way!

ii. Fleur Wood play suit. I love Fleur Wood, going into one of their shops is like walking into my dream bedroom. Everything about Fleur Wood is pretty and delicate and feminine-- just my style!

iii. Alexa Chung for Madewell "Tennessee" velvet dress. This is my favourite dress from Alexa Chung's madewell collection. It is just a perfect little black dress but it has a little hint of quirkiness with the velvet and the collar. This one is on the list because the Madwell online store doesn't ship internationally!

iv. Juliette Hogan skirt. I think Juliette Hogan is quickly becoming one of my favourite labels. I absolutely LOVE her gorgeous sheer and subtlety pleated skirts and dresses. I would actually fork out the money for one of them if I could find where to buy the online! It's almost impossible!

v.
Vivienne Westwood three strap roman sandals. Perfect summer shoes. Enough said.

vi.
A Detatcher Verlaine platform Sandal. These are my dream shoes! I love that they are essentially a super-sized clog. The leather is such a beautiful colour, and the braiding of the leather is just so interesting to the eye. Love it!

vii. Love, Chloe perfume. I recently sampled this perfume at Myer and it smells absolutly beautiful!

viii. Paul and Joe cat Liptisck. This is just about the best thing ever. This lipstick is not only in the nicest shades but hello- cats, moon-themes and beautifully patterned lipstick covers! I love these so much that I think I just may buy one of these for myself (or maybe two!)

vix. Helveta Voltag wooden rings. How cool are these!? I'm always a fan of wooden jewellery, but wooden jewellery cut into a crystal shape---how amazing!

♥ ♥ ♥

What do all of you guys want for christmas???
A u revoir!

d r e a m outfits!

D r e a m O u t f i t s D u j o u r ! ♥
After seeing the outfit above from Rhiannon's blog, I became so inspired to set up Photoshop and create a few dream outfits of my own.
You can probably tell by the images, but at the moment I am really loving well-heeled clogs, Secret Squirrel's pleated skirts, Karen Walker sunglasses and crystal necklaces

D u n g a r e e !

D u n g a r e e / o v e r a l l s! ♥

A little bit heavy, a little bit cute, the dungaree dress is perfect for when the weather warms up! It's a bit of a random thing to want to buy, but recently I have been scouring op shops for a nice pair of overalls, or a denim dungaree dress. As a child, I had so many intense fights I had with my mother over not wanting to wear overalls. Dresses were my clothe of choice. Now, I can think of nothing nicer than a pair of wooden clogs, tortoiseshell sunglasses, a white button-up shirt and a light denim dungaree dress/overalls. How can I not admire such an outfit when Rhiannon, from Liebemarlene and Alexa Chung pull it off so well???
au revoir!
p.s My friend Alex reminded me the other day, that my posts have pretty much been like this one for a while, a few pictures and a little writing... I apoligize but the blog will be like this, or a little quieter until Novemeber, while i'm doing my HSC. Come November and summer, and as I have nothing else to do, I plan on re-vamping the blog- outfit posts, inspiration, videos, collection reviews, interviews, the lot! Look forward to summer my readers, you will be in for a big, good change :)

p l e a t s!

P l e a t s !

Hanging out at Secret Squirrel has got me falling in love with pleated outfits! I just love how they can turn a rather plain colored outfit interesting and pretty. I am completely in love with the outfit below ( with the espadrilles)- it has that perfect mix of casual and smart with the tee shirt/pleated skirt combo...love it!

knits!

K n i t s !

As the days get colder, more and more do I really want a loose fitting, loosely knitted sweater...
or some cable knit.
I think that I would love to perhaps get one in an orange-y/ brown-ey/beige colour...or perhaps a simple black.

Autumn wishlist!

w i s h l i s t !
for
a u t u m n
I try to do four of these a year, and I have found that the Spring and Autumn ones are my favourites to do! So this Autumn, I have been thinking a lot about Hoisery (Australia is so hot that socks, knee highs +stockings all together have had to be put on a stand still for the summer); dark, rich colours (very autumn) and long sleeved dresses.
So here is my (rather extensive) dream wish list!
i) stockings + socks....I know I have said it on here many times, but I am still on the search for those heart printed stockings, grey stockings, grey + navy + black socks and white stockings with black polka dots, a la Lula.

ii) Long sleeved, loose fitting dresses in white, blue and black.
The one Erin Fetherston is wearing (her design evidently) is a dream dress. I have been looking for a perfect one like this for over a year now...no luck! The black one Jen Brill is wearing is also lovely! But I would have to say the winner is the baby blue Lover dress which is probably the most unrealistic one for my to buy, sadly!iii) a military style jacket---but not one that is too heavy. I am loving 'olive' recently. I blame Chloe and Secret Squirrel.iv) Navy, Emerald green, Mustard and Maroon knits. Such a perfect autumn pallet. I am in love with this sweater from Partof (I love the lilac shorts too!!) but I will probably end up buying these vintage.v) Loose fitting black or beige pants! I am not really a pants person, but I would love to give pants this shape a try! They look ultra flattering, and they just look so cool + relaxed, while being feminine at the same time. I love how this girl has styled hers!

vi) a denim/chambray dress! I have been searching for a vintage one and have had no luck size wise, but there are a few out there. There are so many pretty new ones out there also, like this Secret Squirrel one! (to the left)vii) anything that looks like 'Alexa Chung for Madewell" I wonder how expensive the clothes will be when converted to Australian dollars? Regardless, I am in love (more specifically) with the coat, the velvet top, the chambray top, the striped top and the velvet shorts ( I would love to re-create that look!)
viii) clogs! I know I have been going on about the clogs, but I think I am going to buy the Funkis ones. The only picture I could get of them is the black ones, but I want the light wooden ones. They are so quirky and sneaky heels. Love it!
And that is my make believe Autumn wishlist!
(although Im sure in two weeks, much more additions will need to be made)
Au revoir!

C O A T S !

c o a t o ' c l o c k
.

C o a t s !
For the past few months ( yes, I'll admit it, months) I have been collecting various images of wonderful women in wonderful coats. The Australian climate doesn't really demands coats for winter, although last year I felt like it did! So this year a nice coat is on my A/W list of things that I want. I would love a really pretty pea coat (like the peach one below from New Zealand label Ruby) mixed with an Alexa Chung style navy or leopard print coat ( leopard print blog coming soon also, I have been slowly acquiring images for that one too). I'm thinking about going around to the various op shops at my disposal and finding a great pre-loved one there, but so far I've not much had luck. Truthfully I haven't been looking all that hard, a coat has been on my mind for so long that when I walk into a second hand shop and see a nice coat I go "ah, I don't need it..yet".
Anyway, I think they just add somthing special to an outfit. If one was to wear a plain dress underneath, with some nice shoes and socks- it would just look so lovely! In summary, perfect for warming, and making winter outfits prettier and more interesting. So hopefully, my first coat-ed winter shall be this year!
au revoir!
Wish me luck for my parent/teacher interviews tonight!

Alexa Chung for M A D W E L L

A truly perfect ready-to-wear collection. I would wear every single piece in this collection if I could. Everyday. Alexa Chung is genius.

(recognize Tenessee from a few posts ago? She DJ'ed the after party)
I think my favourite looks have to be the chambray top/long white skirt, the mustard pants/black blouse, the trench coat/brogues ( these looks in second picture) the velvet, peter pan collared dress and the velvet shorts!
au revoir!
