Hello All!
Sorry things have been so quiet lately, I've been enjoying summer and not knowing what to post! Things over on my tumblr are very busy though, so if it's ever quiet here, move over there.

Anyway, I was so excited when I saw Lover's new collection 'Lydia' online that I had to post it here!
You may have already seen images floating around, but I think this collection is truly lovely.
The southern hemisphere collection is so perfect for the Australian winter, with those lilac, cream and raspberry tones.
My favourites include the black and white checked dress and skirt (so 60s!), the cream leather skirt and the black long sleeved party dress.

I bought these incredible shoes in Chinatown about a week ago. They remind me of all of the shoes in my favourite Japanese magazine, 'PopTeen' which I blogged about ages ago here. So glad they are finally mine! I wore them out last night and felt like a geisha, but I didn't fall over so I'm rather proud. I think they will look super cute with socks too like this!

Today is the first day of summer!

The weather has been crazy here in Sydney, one day cold, one day warm so I haven't been able to fully get into the summer spirit yet, but i'm hoping these pictures will let me!
Last week I went on a lovely little summer trip with my friends, and that was so lovely. I'll post pictures here soon. Now that i've finished uni expect more regular blogging too- thank you so much for putting up with my pathetic, irregular blogging of late!

This summer I plan to wear 1950's dresses and bathing suits; APC sandals; cat-eye sunglassess and glitter nailpolish. It's going to be great.

To make up for my terrible blogging of late (it's final exam time, sorry) I have decided to create a few collages of dream spring outfits. For me, spring always means light pastels such as lilac (love!) or peach. I think that these outfits would be probable be too warm for Sydney's spring, but hey it's make believe land where I can afford Sretsis and Alexander Wang. Anything goes! I have also been really inspired by Elke Kramer's incredible new collection that is based on sea amoebas and anemones. She is a truly talented lady!Outfit 2. Outfit 1 + 2 are every day outfits that I would wear to uni or around town. I really love the digital print of the Secret Squirrel dress, so beautiful! I also love the cashmere Acne sweater...that's one of those 'one day I am definitely going to make the investment' things. The Sretsis clothes are incredible too, perfect for spring!

I love H A L L O W E E N
Ever since I was one of the few trick-or-treating children in my neighbourhood, I wished that I lived in America where halloween was a bigger deal.
I remember the evil adults who slammed their doors in our little child faces claiming 'halloween is AMERICAN' well you know what evil adults? It's also great.
Just look at these photo's! Hopefully this year I can get all dressed up and have a proper halloween. If not, im sure these photos will quench my halloween appetite!

Here is my photo diary of NYC! This again, is pre-amazing camera so the picture quality isn't too great but hopefully you can see how much fun it was. I especially loved Grand Central Station (we forgot the camera that day...trust), Central Park, Bryant Park (all the parks, really) and The Museum Of Natural History (and planetarium)
The picture below is my brother...he looks so much like a prehistoric turtle it's a little creepy. I was super elusive in all the photos as well, but I'm in two of them here...spot the me!

Lonely H E A R T S aw2011

Lonely Hearts is one of those fantastic southern hemisphere labels that highlight the talent we have around here. I really loved their past two collections, but I think this one is my favorite they have ever done. Even though we have just come into spring, the pallete evokes memories of early Autumn afternoons where it's not quite cold or warm...kind of like the Sydney weather right now. The collection was inspired by 'The Matrix' and thank god I don't really see any obvious allusions to that as I'm not the biggest fan of the androgynous-to-the-point-of-painstakingly-ugly costumes the ladies wore in that film.
What I see instead is a 60's influence in the boat neck jumpers, a perfect balance of masculine and feminie throughout and lots of beautiful Lonely Hearts' dressess which the label has come to be known for. I hope I'll be able to get my hands on the black sweater and the sheer, navy dress below...they are magical!

San f r a n s i s c o !

Hello all!
I have now come home from my American adventure, boy was it amazing.
Here are my favourite snaps from San Fransisco, which was incredible. SF is so much like Sydney it's crazy, its so crisp and clean and grey (in a good way!)
I really love San Fran...I mean just look at these pictures, what a beautiful place!

Sadly, the vintage fashion this time around wasn't so good. When I visited Haight Ashbury back in 2008 I pretty much lost my shit and went crazy in the vintage stores there. This time however, the quality of vintage was seriously lacking (in my opinion you really can't call 90's and 00's clothes vintage!) or the legit stuff was far too overpriced.

Vintage sadness aside, SF was probably my favourite leg of the trip. New York was incredible and exciting, but SF was just so chilled. I had a lot of quiet moments to just go 'wow. This place'.

In other news...I got a new camera! FINALLY! This camera is beautiful and shiny and I named it Ezriel. This is good news for you lovely readers too, because hopefully this will mean a better quality blog (better quality pictures at least!)

These pictures were taken with the old camera, I love the second image. Such a 'No, Dad, I don't feel like having my picture taken right now. Oh okay, just do it' face.

I am heading to the old USA on Saturday, so excited!
So before I go, I thought i'd do a little momentum post about New York to get me in the spirit (SO much work left to do before I go!)

Rodarte for OC

May I just begin by saying...what a collaboration. I really love both labels, but I would never have picked them to work together! When I think of Rodarte I think of romantic, intriguing and complicated designs which are basically works of art. I have loved Rodarte since I saw a collection of theirs back in 2008...I also loved the Mulvey sisters' issue of Lula, and I thought was strange that not many other people did.
Contrastingly, Opening Ceremony has always been street smart, casual and really really cool to me....which lead me to ask "How will this work!?"
Alas, these images from their lookbook have disproved all of my doubts as it is incredible. I can really see Rodarte in these looks as they are whimsical and really interesting. I think they are also very wearable which is where OC comes in. The muted colour pallete is particularly great. So perfect for spring!
Suffice to say I'm in love...and I want that hair!

I think it would be safe to say that 60's groupies are probably my biggest style icons.
There is no wonder that these ladies inspired the world of some of the sixties best creatives. Marianne Faithful, Edie Sedgwick, Anna Karina, Jane Asher, Jean Shrimpton, Yoko Ono, Mimi Farina and Patti Boyd are a few of my favourites with a collective style that could be described as romantic, classic and typically sixties.
Today I thought I'd do a little post about probably the most successful (and arguably the most beautiful) 60's groupie, Pattie Boyd who not only dated George Harrison but also Eric Clapton.

U S A trip 2011!

Hello all, I have some exciting news.... I'm going to America in three weeks!♥

We're going on a little family holiday to San Francisco and New York and I thought I'd do a few posts to boost up my momentum. I've been to San Francisco before, back in 2008, and I can safely say it is my favourite city in the world. It is magically sad in its fog ridden haze but it is also colourful and crisp and bright. Last time we stayed at Fishermans wharf and this time we will be staying in my favourite suburb in all the lands, H a i g h t A s h b u r y !

I've been saving my pennies for months upon months and plan to spend most of them in the vintage stores in Haight Ashbury, which I think are the best in the world. Unfortunatley I lost all my pictures from my last visit, so here are a few beautiful images of my beloved city!

For further momentum, I have been engaging in all American things, such as blogs, music and books. If you want to get in the San Francisco spirit (or just want a good read) I recommend Jack Keroac's "On The Road" (amazing novel...one of my favourites!); for some tuneage, I recommend "If you're going to San Francisco" by The Byrds (I listened to it last time I was there...with flowers in my hair!) and for a bit of blogging fun, check out San Francisco based blog Blushing Ambition here. I love, love, love her style (and will be visiting a few of the resturants she photographs so well!)

This is probably the most inappropriate outfit for today as anyone in Sydney would know, it is the most beautiful and sunny day in such a long time! I wore this outfit last week when it was raining and cold and evil outside, and as you can see I finally got myself a pair of grey stockings!
These pics are really bad quality but you can see my room a little bit, which is a post I've been meaning to do for a while...maybe its time?

The middle of winter...

It is the middle of winter here in Australia now, and I find my winter wardrobe piling up with cozy, oversized sweaters and stockings in all different colours (I managed to find a pair of grey ones last week!).
One thing I haven't been able to find yet is the perfect pair of boots. Sweaters and boots are so cute with a polka dot skirt or something...I'm looking for a perfect pair of black ones with a wooden stacked heel. The ones in the picture below are perfect!
Next week I'll be going on a little cabin adventure to the country with some of my uni friends which I'm really excited about. Hopefully I'll be able to take a few photos of the amazing countryside to show you here.

The other week I bought the most beautiful 60's sweater clips from etsy store VintageEnvy
which has the most wonderful collection of 60's brooches, earrings and of course sweater clips!
I first saw these on the blog Amateur Coture, and knew I had to have them.
They are such a cute addition to an outfit, I loved how they looked in the 60's and I love them how they today with a modern outfit. I think I will buy myself a blue cardigan to wear with these...maybe a vintage cashmere one! Very appropriate.

If you regularly follow any of the blogs that I do you will probably have seen Alison Scarpulla's beautiful photographs circulating around. Pagan rituals, full moons, woods and well-dressed ladies are all a common themes on her Flikr page which, really, is right up my alley.
I love how haunting and mysterious all the photographs are, created by the hazy soft focus and the muted, ambiguous colours in them.
If I were ever to start my own magazine, these are the exact kind of images I would have adorning every page.

I thought I'd do a little mini outfit post today to show off my beautiful new Fieldguided tote bag. I've been a huge Fieldguided fan for a long time, and I have always admired Anabela's simple yet pretty tote bags so when I visited the mail box yesterday to find an amazing dip dyed tote bag I was incredibly excited! It fits all my things perfectly, and its so great to bring to uni.
The blush colour of the bag is perfect for adding a bit of colour to all of the grey, black and white outfits i've been wearing the past couple of weeks in this crazy Sydney cold snap. Too cold! I think the dip dye kinda looks like a sunset, so lovely!

winter inspiration

W i n t e r !is officially here now, which means lots of great things including winter break and my nineteenth birthday. It also means stockings, capes, coats, scarves, boots and sweaters. Which is pretty great.
I'm a bit torn though, being in Australia all of my favourite blogs are northern hemisphere based and thus posting beautiful summer pictures running around in flimsy skirts and singlets...which makes me super jealous that I can't do that right now. Anyone else dealing with that?

The weather hasn't been too bad yet, so hopefully we can have a mild winter all rugged up in layers while drinking litres of tea a day. That's pretty much how it's been for the past couple of weeks.
EDIT: The weather has been pure shit. The day after I posted this, Sydney experienced its coldest day in about five years :(

Dream o u t f i t s for Autumn/winter

I love doing these collages, creating beautiful looks out of clothes with I will either never own, or hope hope hope to be able to own/afford one day! These four outfits are pretty unsuitable for real winter weather, but lets pretend it's a mild winter that allows for beautiful clothes.

To... d i n n e r :
I would love to wear this APC camel coat over the top of a Secret Squirrel Pyramid dress to dinner. The combination of these two with my new favourite bag by Australian brand Under The Apple creates a real 'breakfast at Tiffany's' look to this outfit. It'd be a little bit more like dinner at Tiffany's though.
The shoes are also APC.

Working in a vintage store, I am lucky to be able to wear pretty much anything vintage, or vintage inspired to work. This beautiful lace top (which i'm not sure of the label, sorry) has a real 50's feel when paired with the Secret Squirrel Edie skirt which I think has a bit of a Bridgitte Bardot vibe. The shoes + necklace is Madewell.

To... Go S h o p p i n g with friends
I love the more tomboy-ish look of this outfit, and how it's also pretty luxurious, with a cashmere Opening Ceremony sweater and Lover silk shorts. This look is pretty much as laid back as I go, as with the lace silk shorts the outfit is still romantic and pretty. The addition of the beautiful Secret Squirrel pea coat adds that 60's vibe to outfits I love so much.

T o . . . University
This is probably one of my favorite Secret Squirrel dresses (and they make so many good ones!) This beauty is the counting stars dress and the colour and the fit is so perfect for dressing up prettily for any occasion really, but the relaxed fix makes it perfect for uni. In real life, Id probably not pair it with these madewell clog boots for uni, but hey its dream outfit time. Anything goes!

is a brand that is featured pretty often on this blog. I love so much about their aesthetic- I think they are the label that best harmonizes the feminine and tomboy style. Their summer 11/12 collection is no exception, with the lookbook contrasting cute prints (pink silk with multicolored hearts!) and flowing shillouettes with an ugly, yet so good sock/sandal combination.
Can't wait until this one hits stores!

This week has been pretty exciting for me in the blogging/fashion sphere as I've been living vicariously through my favourite blogger and favourite designers. For any new readers of my blog (HELLO! btw) I've been a happy little intern at Secret Squirrel for over a year now, and so it was very exciting when earlier this week my favourite blogger Rhiannon of Liebemarlene did a giveaway with Secret Squirrel, which featured some pretty beautiful photo's of Rhiannon in one of my favourite Squirrel dresses, the Counting Stars Dress.

A little while ago (and by that I mean about an hour ago) Rhiannon did a post announcing her new online store which has the most beautiful collection of designer and vintage pieces including dresses from Secret Squirrel, TBA and and Family Affairs.
If the store's lookbook is anything to go by, I'm sure that shopping online here will be like stepping into a magical, romantic world of whimsy.

S u n s h i n e...
I am a bit of an outside person myself, I love sitting outside in the sun as opposed to cooped up inside. This seems to be the case in winter, especially - if its a beautiful sunny day, ill be outside. These photos pretty much sum up how I would like to look just chilling outside with my friends, or with some lunch or even with a bit of uni work :(there's always uni work).
I'm loving how these girls are dressed outside, clad in pretty dresses, pastel sweaters, cropped jeans and beautiful skirts.

The past week here in Sydney has been unusually cold for autumn and I definitely have gotten a cold wearing weather inappropriate outfits, partly because I haven't really acquired a winter wardrobe yet.

I came across the images of Alix (A.k.a the cherry blossom girl) new lingerie collection for Etam on her blog and fell instantly in love.
I love the soft pastels of all the lingerie sets, and they have the prettiest details (bows, tulle, watercolour-esque prints) which make them oh-so french.
I could feel very pretty in any of these wondrous undergarments.

A couple of days ago I visited my post box, and I what did I find?
Another beautiful pair of Alexandra Grecco scalloped silk shorts (hows that for alliteration!)
I did an outfit post a while back when I got my first pair of blush coloured A. Grecco shorts, so I thought it would only be fitting to show off these babies.
I thought the black pair would be useful, plus it's much more winter-ey and will look great with grey stockings underneath, which I'm really feeling at the moment.

A dance for o n e ...

L O V E R has been one of my favourite labels for a long time.
Their new collection ' A dance for one' is just beautiful. Featuring Lover favourites like delicate lace, drapery and silks the collection does not disappoint. My favourite piece has to be those beautiful black silk shorts with the lace trim...amazing!
The short film they made in collaboration with the Australian Ballet Academy to compliment the collection is gorgeous also.

Ever since I started university a month ago, I have found myself always thinking about outfits (even more than before!) It must be the fact that I actually have to pick out an outfit every day--which I am definitely not used to coming from school wearing a uniform every day.
So I have come up with a few dream outfits with clothes from some of my favourite designers which I would wear all about town (if I were a gazillionaire, of course).

In fact, I bought two sweaters today (two polka dot sweaters actually) but I had to lay by the other. I am looking forward to a well polka dotted winter, and now I'm well equipped!

is my favourite season of the year, as old followers of this blog would know. I am so excited that we have finally hit autumn, I can't wait to wear chunky cardigans, lots of orange and little polka dot printed stockings. I'm such an advocate of autumn (some may say autumn nerd, instead) that on the first of March I wore a 60's vintage autumn leaf brooch to uni. So lame, but so nice also.
I've been saving images on my computer for a while to post an autumn mood board here,

I start U n i v e r s i t y today!

I am very excited today as I have my first lecture! Anyone who doesn't know (or cares) I am going to Sydney University to study Media and communications (...in other words journalism).
I worked all through high school to reach the goal of getting into this course so I am super, super excited to finally start my degree.
My first lecture is at 4pm, pretty random time but I'm pumped nevertheless.

This is a mini outfit post in the hopes of making up for not blogging lately--- I've been pretty much in bed sick for the past two weeks, I had a virus.
On a happier note, summer is almost over here, and I'm starting university next week how exciting! It's due to this that I've started thinking about autumn/ winter-ey, flat shoes that I can wear to uni and the first thing that came to mind was a pair of beautiful brogues (Tennesse Thomas is much to blame!)

So yesterday I was with my best friends around china town and I found the perfect pair of brogues! They are reminiscent of saddle shoes which is a plus, and the colour is just what I wanted. I had to get them. I also liked that they reminded me of Rachel Antonoff's collaboration with shoe brand Bass shoes (pictured below and modeled by ms. Thomas herself).

These shoes are featured in Rachel Antonoff's A/W 2011 collection as well. If you haven't already seen the collection (which she previewed by throwing a mock prom in a high school auditorium in New York) I suggest looking it over- the clothes are just so beautiful, and the idea of having a mock prom...amazing!

I'll do a post about it soon, I already have a full folder full of pictures of my favourite trombone printed pieces from the collection...but for now I'll give you a preview of the beautiful saddle shoes she dressed the prom- going models in!

S t r u m m e r A/W 2011

Strummer is a label that I've only recently came across and I must say I'm hooked! I am a huge, huge fan of Southern Hemisphere fashion houses (possibly because I'm Australian and they appear to my aesthetic more?) and Strummer is a lovely little Australian label.
Their last collection had some really great pieces (plaid ruffle dresses!) but I love absolutely everything in this seasons' lookbook. These are my favourite looks from the rather large collection...I especially love all the white dresses and the blue printed pieces!
I love the 60's vibe of the collection, and the juxtaposition of all the delicate lace pieces with the leather and more structured skirts and dress silhouettes. Everything is just so wearable while at the same time being quirky and individualistic...
The styling is great, too! Those shoes (which are for sale by Strummer) and the socks! So amazing! I hope I'll be able to save up and afford at least one piece from this pretty much flawless collection.

I finally got around to buying Lula issue 11 yesterday, and my lord was it worth the wait!
I was so happy to see all the editorials I've been stalking online in the flesh, and I love Rodarte, so Kate and Laura Mulleavy guest-editing was definitely my cup of tea...but more on Lula later.
The one thing from issue 11 that inspired me the most was Rachel Antonoff's beautiful article "White Chalk" about white dresses.

I started thinking about how much I really do love a white dress. They are, perhaps my favourite colour to wear in a dress, besides pale blue. Something about a beautiful white dress simultaneously labels the wearer romantic and haunting when done right. I then started to think about the white dresses' counterpart, the black dress. When I say black dress I don't mean a 'LBD' tight mini dress...but a dress that has the potential to be as whimsical and romantic as the white dress.

So here is my list of favourite Black and White dresses!

1. Black dress from Duskin. I have the flat lay image of the dress and have made collages from it before because it has such a beautiful, simple shape with interesting textured fabrication.

2. White dress from Secret Squirrel. This dress is just about my favourite Secret Squirrel dress ever. It also comes in black, which is beautiful as well...but the white is basically perfection. The bell sleeves, the lace insertion, the subtle waist, the floaty skirt, the silhouette, ah! It's just my kind of dress. On second thought, this may be my favourite dress. Ever.

3. Black dress from Lover. How amazing is this dress!? This is the very height of whimsy. The sleeves alone make me want to attend a pagan ritual in haunted grounds. It reminds me of something Stevie Nicks would love to wear on stage while singing Rhiannon, which is always a good sign in my book! Unfortunately it's far too expensive for me, valued at over one thousand dollars :(

4. TBA white dress. This is just about the most perfect Edwardian-inspired white dress...I also love the printed version of this dress. I've been deliberating buying it since the collection aired so maybe that's a sign I should take the plunge and invest?

5. Black dress from Lover. This is the 'ritual pin tuck dress' which is from my favourite Lover collection, Lovebomb. I think this dress officially names Lover the best go-to brand for black dresses. It is so simple and sweet but at the same time not too 'little girl' due to the midnight shade of it which is just perfect.

6. White dress from Strummer. Strummer is quickly becoming one of my new favourite Australian labels. The latest collection is so amazing (blog soon on it!) This whole outfit is just me all over. The pin tucks on the sleeves, the buttons down the bodice and the general silhouette make me so curious at to this price of this beauty...this would also make an amazing investment piece!

I think Florence Welsh is one amazing lady. I love her music, not to mention her style!
She has beautiful stage presence, often adorning her microphone and drums with flowers...how cool is that!? She also has wonderful fashion sense, I mean just look at the outfit she's wearing in these videos.

These are live, acoustic versions of two of my favourite Florence And The Machine songs. They are a little bit simpler sounding than the versions on the record which is what I like about them.

Meet the newest member of my family!

My mum surprised me with him today! I have been pestering her for another dog for ages, my other dog, Max, has been lonely since our old dog, Rosie died a couple of years back. :(

So today my mum came home from my grandmas house (the one I was at earlier last week) and said "Loren go look in the car, your grandma got max a new bed" and what did I find?
A beautiful apricot Moodle puppy sitting on max's new bed!

A moodle is a maltese x toy poodle and he is small enough to put in my shoes ( I know, I've tried)
My parents got him for me as a late graduation present, and I think he's just about the best present I've ever recieved! He is so sweet. He is just as playful and he is cuddly! Speaking of such, I think I'll go cuddle him now!

I wore this a couple of days ago. It has been really, really hot here in Sydney but now we have hit a little bit of a cold snap (and by that I mean a pleasant 25 degrees, thank god!). This skirt is one of my favourites, I think its one of the best things I've found at thrift store. It's maroon with small, shiny polka dots all over it...it also has a built in petticoat and a beaded hem!

In case anyone was interested, I had a great time at my grandmother's house at the coast! Everyday was spent at the beach or in the pool... or canoeing on the river. Such a good place to spend all those hot summer days!

Although Christmas was a little while ago, I thought I would preview some of the lovely things I received. I am so lucky to get these amazing presents!

1. Vera Wang 'Princess perfume. This is my favourite perfume, I was running out so I needed a replacement! 2. I got Virginia Woolf's novel " A room of one's own" from my best friend Kate. I've had a deep love for Virginia Woolf ever since I read 'Mrs Dalloway' so I wanted to read more of her work. 3. Journal from my parents- its amazing, it has a deer on it!

3. My "creepy doll bag" as my brother so lovingly refers to it. He gave it to me for Christmas and it is such a cute tote bag, perfect for university. 4. A Speakerbox. I first saw these in Frankie magazine a little while ago and thought they were such great speakers!

5. Paul + Joe cat lipstick. I bought these for myself because I just love them so much. The cats are too funny and the covers are so pretty! The shades are nice, too. They are sheer, yet shiny which is nice for me as I don't wear much lipstick.

I've been quite in love with asos.com for ages now. They have some lovely brands like TBA and the ASOS brand itself has some great pieces. The label have many adaptations of big name designer pieces at much more affordable prices which is excellent for those on a student budget, much like myself. This collection is ASOS's spring 2011 collection and I think it's great!
My favourite look is the one above- I can't wait for the collection to launch on the site so I can buy that dress! I love the asymmetrical neckline and the thin one-shoulder. I also love the juxtaposition of the black segments and the yellow mid-part...as well as the large pleats.
The collection is split up into a few sections as seen on Refinery 29 including a 'costa rica' section that I am not so fond of...I think I like the nude looks best (seen below).
However, what I like best of all about this collection is the styling. The models cropped, messy hair and the olive socks/leopard print heels accent the clothes well, creating a simple, clean look to the whole collection. I also love the nude colours of the dresses being paired with splashes of colour like the navy blue cropped jacket or the salmon belt in the bottom left picture.
Anyone know when the collection is for sale?

Any long-time readers of the blog will know that I think Lula magazine is just about the best thing. Ever. I am kind of sad that I haven't had a chance to get issue 11, but I've been stalking all the editorials online, so I suppose I've gotten a little bit of my Lula fix. I love the fact that the Mulleavey sisters, the geniuses behind Rodarte guest edited the issue, despite the fact that I've read a lot of online reviews that said they found the issue anticlimactic...sad.
Judging by this beautiful editorial "Wanderbird" Lula still hasn't lost its romantic, mysterious, ethereal and dark way making it still number one in my book!

For the past four or five days it has been around thirty degrees, proper summer weather...but then this cold (and by 'cold' I mean non-summer) twenty degree weather follows. It's annoying that it kind of breaks the summer mood, but it is great because it gives reason to wear chunky knit sweaters with shorts, or a summer-ey dress with stockings.

This is what I wore today while I was out doing last minute Christmas shopping...
I love christmas shopping! I know many people find it frustrating and to a certain extent it is, but I think nothing can beat that feeling of when you find the perfect thing for someone!
I live for the reaction when you get someone something they would really use or appreciate... as a child I never quite got the whole "giving is better than receiving" mantra, but now as I've gotten older I completely do!
I'm excited for tomorrow not only because it's Christmas eve...but also because my dad, brother and I are going to visit IKEA...which always makes my Swedish dad incredibly nostalgic. He often whips out strange food items and throws them in mine and my brothers faces proclaiming that it was 'his favourite food when he was our age' back in the motherland (an example of one nostalgia-enducing food item is 'kallas caviar' I. E prawn paste in a tube...that he puts on toast...with apricot marmalade...the swedes are strange!)

'Somewhere'

I am really looking forward to seeing Sofia Coppola's new film "Somewhere."
Sofia Coppola is pretty much my favorite director, she has only made four features (including 'Somewhere') but I love the films she has made so much! I love the simplicity of her stories, and how she carries the simplicity through the entire film, in terms of costume, set and cinematography.
She also has just about the best taste in music, too...any one who has heard 'The Virgin Suicides" soundtrack (which she collaborated with Air on) you would know what I'm talking about.
'Somewhere' promises to be just as amazing as her previous flicks, with her long-time partner, Pheonix band member, Thomas Mars creating an all-original soundtrack...

The costuming of the film's female protagonist "Cleo" played by Elle Fanning is so beautiful as well...sure, she's eleven years old, but it wouldn't hurt anyone to take a style note from her feminine, minimalistic wardrobe. Here are some pictures from the film!

i. A Papillionaire bicycle. (This is the bicycle of my dreams!)

Normally, I do little post around Christmas time with a little wish list of all the things I am hoping to preview here on the blog after Christmas. This year I've decided to do a make believe wishlist of all the things I would want for Christmas if I were a millionaire. It's much more fun this way!

ii. Fleur Wood play suit. I love Fleur Wood, going into one of their shops is like walking into my dream bedroom. Everything about Fleur Wood is pretty and delicate and feminine-- just my style!

iii. Alexa Chung for Madewell "Tennessee" velvet dress. This is my favourite dress from Alexa Chung's madewell collection. It is just a perfect little black dress but it has a little hint of quirkiness with the velvet and the collar. This one is on the list because the Madwell online store doesn't ship internationally!

iv. Juliette Hogan skirt. I think Juliette Hogan is quickly becoming one of my favourite labels. I absolutely LOVE her gorgeous sheer and subtlety pleated skirts and dresses. I would actually fork out the money for one of them if I could find where to buy the online! It's almost impossible!

v. Vivienne Westwood three strap roman sandals. Perfect summer shoes. Enough said.

vi. A Detatcher Verlaine platform Sandal. These are my dream shoes! I love that they are essentially a super-sized clog. The leather is such a beautiful colour, and the braiding of the leather is just so interesting to the eye. Love it!

vii. Love, Chloe perfume. I recently sampled this perfume at Myer and it smells absolutly beautiful!

viii. Paul and Joe cat Liptisck. This is just about the best thing ever. This lipstick is not only in the nicest shades but hello- cats, moon-themes and beautifully patterned lipstick covers! I love these so much that I think I just may buy one of these for myself (or maybe two!)

vix. Helveta Voltag wooden rings. How cool are these!? I'm always a fan of wooden jewellery, but wooden jewellery cut into a crystal shape---how amazing!

The weather has been so hot here in Australia the past couple of days, but I took these few photos last week when the weather was a bit more forgiving.
At the moment Ive been working a lot, so I haven't had much time to be to inspired by anything, fashion wise. The only thing I am being inspired by at the moment is summer itself. Summer is really making me think of investing a pair of white espadrilles, a la Alexa Chung. They are such sweet shoes that go so well with flowy dresses and denim cut-offs. I hope everyone's holidays are going well, I'm planning a little summer inspiration post shortly!

Dear Summer,
Today is the first day of you, Summer, so I thought I would write a little letter to tell you my hopes for you. This is the summer that everyone remembers as 'the best time of their lives thus far' because they don't have school to worry about for the first times in their lives. Summer, I would like you to ensure that I will be one of those people. You can do this for me in a few ways:
1. Make the weather sunny and warm enough to go exploring on the many beaches of Sydney with my friends.
2. Make the weather sunny and warm so that I can run around in flimsy cotton dresses and skirts all day without a care, just like a kid.

3. Make the ocean clear and cool and ripe with many different hues of blue and green.

4. Make a smile never fleet from the faces of myself and my company....

...And let me wear clogs every day!

I wore this outfit to Bondi Junction shopping center the other day, which was exciting as it was the first time I got to wear my new Secret Squirrel skirt!

I'm not one for visiting Westfield's, as pretty much every clothing store has exactly the same products, which isn't very inspiring at all. Bondi Junction, however is very exciting.

They have some really amazing shops which you can't find in every shopping center (read: Gormans- for beautiful clothes and Papaya- for the prettiest homewears ever...we bought our christmas tree from there!)

It was a lovely day, I LOVE the shops around Christmas time, everything is so shiny and happy.

Alright, so although it is technically not summer yet, all of us school-finishers are on a huge break, which is amazing as we have spent the majority of the year stressing and working hard completing the HSC. The weather has been all summer-ey and crazy too! All weekend it was over thirty degrees (ridiculously warm for spring) and today it has been raining like crazy! What's going on Spring?!
Lots of hanging out with various friends has lead to me having such a great time the past couple of weeks, and everyone else isn't even on break yet! In the past week, it's been really nice to go on a few picnics with my best friends, Izzie, Kate and Thirza.

It is just about the most exciting thing when you receive something that you have bought online.
Over the past two postage days I have received the most amazing things!
I bought this beautiful pair of scalloped shorts from Alexandra Grecco's etsy store.
As soon as I watched the video on her website I knew that I had to have those shorts...I love the black ones with the ties on the sides too so perhaps I will buy a pair of those as well when they pop up online.

The other gift of amazement was my very own pair of Karen Walker Number two sunglasses!
I have wanted a pair of Karen Walker sunglasses for two years now, I just love the shapes of her shades! I also have wanted large, cat-eye sunglasses for a few years so this pair is just everything I wanted! Perfect!

I love how rompers have all of the feminine simplicity of wearing a dress, I mean, dressing doesn't really get much easier than slipping on a dress, but rompers have pants which make them much more practical than a dress during summer exploring and running around.
I love the rompers below by New York based designer Alexandra Grecco.
I ordered a pair of her shorts a couple of weeks ago- I'm just waiting for them to arrive in the mail.

TWENTY S E V E N NAMES w i n t e r 2 0 11

TwentySevenNames is a label that I have blogged about so many times before. To me, Rachel Easting and Anjali Stewart (the designers) can do no wrong. I mean, just look at the clothes! I love not only the clothes themselves, but the twentysevennames 'girl' who is a mix of understated cool and feminine playfulness, I believe.
Their winter collection "the fearsome five" is based on 90's subcultures- geeks, grunge kids and preppy 'clueless' type gals. I even hear that the hair for the runway show (below) was inspired by the girls of the ever popular 90's 90210 (I can see that).
I love how in this collection, Rachel and Anjali have stayed true to their simplistic, muted and subtle aesthetic but mixed it up a bit with brighter prints (very 90's) and a darker pallete (it is winter of course).
I love how TwentySevenNames lookbooks always have a band of beautiful girls modelling the clothes, rather than just one. I just think it's such an innovative and fresh take on marketing a collection- it certainly draws me in! This season's lookbook has only five girls (as opposed to the ten or so that featured in the s/s 10 "twelve" collection lookbook) and each shot features a certian colourway (white, black, prints) which I think is really smart. The clothes, girls and photos just look so amazing!
I am trying really hard to not be as inspired by this collection right now, as today we had a lovely 25 degree spring day! 'Twelve" has a much more "spring" vibe to me!
Just as a side note, sorry about the lame blogging, I have three weeks until the HSC. This is what one would call CRUNCH TIME. So I won't be able to blog much. I have my last exam in the first week of November, so expect amazing blogging then!

♥ S p r i n g !

It's a little bit difficult to believe that I am as excited about the arrival of spring as I am, considering the fact that it has rained the past three days...but I couldn't be happier for the change of season! This winter has been the coldest Australian winter in 16 years so it has been very unpleasant for me and my holistically weather inappropriate wardrobe. Recently I have found myself having a few make-believe online shopping trips, wishing and wishing that I could afford my three favourite spring collections du jour:

i/ T w e n t y - s e v e n n a m e s - t w e l v e !This collection I have rambled on about before, but seriously it is just beautiful. It's allure just grows on me every time I look at the collection. I could actually buy at least six of the dresses, I love them so much! My favourite is the nude dress to the left of the first picture followed by the white to the right of the same picture. I would love to fill my spring wardrobe with a colour pallete of nude, lilac and white.

ii/ S e c r e t S q u i r r e l - D e e p B l u e S e a !This is I think my favourite SS collection to date! I love the simple silhouettes paired with the printed fabrics. The whole collection just looks beautiful and fresh...I love the blue dress in the first picture, the collared blouses and all the pleated skirts/dresses ( An SS classic!) The whole collection is perfect for summer! I just love the juxtaposition of all the white and the navy blues in summer- gorgeous!

iii/ T B A - a / w 2 0 1 0 !I think the newest TBA collection is the one which I am going to end up forking out the money for, the dresses are just too perfect (and not as expensive as TSN) Although it is an a/w collection, I think that most of these dresses are pretty much transcendent of all seasons and years. The dresses are inspired by 'Edwardian Tea Parties' which pretty much has me written all over it. For a long time I considered buying the olive green "Flo" coat which is beautiful but then I moved my interests to the crem de la crem of the collection---the mushroom "Evelyn" dress.
As of now, however, I think I have to make the choice between the navy blue or the emerald green velvet dress with the white organza collar. I wouldn't mind paying the money for such a beautiful and timeless piece which I would wear for years to come!

Just wanted to do a little post to tell you that I am alive and studying like mad woman. As such, little proper blogging is happening at the moment, and with my trial exams next week I don't think I'll be able to do a proper post for a little while. It's just easier to use tumblr at the moment, so remember that if you want a little bit of Feather Fleurette, you can just find me here, tumbling away.Please bear with me, in a couple of weeks I will be back to being a devoted blogger!
For right now, I will tell you that I bought my first designer piece of clothing last week. It's just amazing. A little bit heavy, a little bit cute, the dungaree dress is perfect for when the weather warms up! It's a bit of a random thing to want to buy, but recently I have been scouring op shops for a nice pair of overalls, or a denim dungaree dress. As a child, I had so many intense fights I had with my mother over not wanting to wear overalls. Dresses were my clothe of choice. Now, I can think of nothing nicer than a pair of wooden clogs, tortoiseshell sunglasses, a white button-up shirt and a light denim dungaree dress/overalls. How can I not admire such an outfit when Rhiannon, from Liebemarlene and Alexa Chung pull it off so well???

S h e + h i m volume t w o

As I think every regular reader of this blog knows, Zooey Deschanel is my lady. I think she is an incredibly talented and wonderful person, so naturally I enjoy her band, She and Him. I absolutely loved their first album, Volume one (with my favourite songs being 'sentimental heart', 'change is hard' and 'sweet darling') so I couldn't wait for Volume two to be released.
I must say, I have not been disappointed! The sound of the second album has the combined sound of a 60's girl band mixed with a jazz crooner with a little bit of country thrown in there, similar to Volume One. What I have found is that there is more a country/western vibe to this album, which I rather like (surprisingly). I think its the mix of Zooey's beautiful velvetey crooner voice with M. Ward's guitar(which I believe contribues the country vibe) that makes this album work so well. My favourite songs so far are :'Home' and 'In the sun'. The song below, 'Theives" is also lovely, and has the most amazing video clip ever--- check it out!

M i s s U n k o n ! ♥

After viewing this lookbook, I have decided that I want my summer to look like this. I love the pastels and the prettiness of it all, but most of all I enjoy the lightweight fabrics and the 70's vibe to all the pieces. I have been really enjoying 70's dresses recently, I just feel like wearing a nude 70's dress with butterfly sleeves teamed with a nice cardigan, stockings and boots for the winter times.

The winter times have certainly left me rather uninspired clothing wise. I get so excited for layering during the warmer months, but when I reach winter, I've already had a whole month of layering in Autumn so I'm over it.

Can't wait for Spring. Best season after Autumn.
I hope all my blog readers are well, sorry about the slow down in featherfleurette town, but sadly I'll be blogging at around this pace until October when my final high school exams end!

I apologize for being a deadbeat blogger lately, school is now going in to overdrive and we all really have to work now...come October school will be over- forever! Scary! Anyway, I thought I would show you a few ( very few) of the lovely things I received for my eighteenth birthday on the 1st of July!
My brother got me the perfume 'Scarlett' by Cacharel. I've loved the purfume for ages and ages---it smells so beautiful and the bottle is so pretty! I also love the ad's, styled by Editor-in-chief of Lula magazine (and my personal hero) Leigth Clarke.
My best friends got all of my other friends to write a little message to me for my birthday and they created a beautiful eighteenth birthday book for me--- I absoultey love it!
My parents got me another pair of Funkis clogs---a black pair which I have been wearing constantly for the past two weeks.
Bri + Andrew at Secret Squirrel gave me this amazing sequined cardigan from their autumn/winter range. It's the perfect thing to wear out over a pretty dress when going out these cold nights!
I love all the people who made my birthday so special--thanks guys!

Hanging out at Secret Squirrel has got me falling in love with pleated outfits! I just love how they can turn a rather plain colored outfit interesting and pretty. As I sign off for the night of my day of birth I would like to thank everyone who made my day so amazing! God you guys are so lovely, I really had the most amazing eighteenth! I had a wondrous day of schooling (not much schooling was done), I got a free 'birthday' boost juice, went out to dinner with my family at my favourite Japanese restaurant (with sake and random sweet German wine on hand) and had a nice little 'first eighteen year cocktail at a bar in Newtown!

Last Friday, my school had our athletics carnival! It is my last one ever, so we had to make it super special. Every year each colour house (we have six) come up with a theme and we all come in costume. Last year, when I was the house captain of the purple house, Jaricot, Toys was our theme. I came as a giant rubix cube in a painted box. Competing was an issue. This year the new Jaricot captain chose the theme 'Jaricot in wonderland' so Kate and I came as the chesire cat. It was a wonderful day (athletics aside)!

Jeans!

I am very excited to proclaim to my blog readers that...I found jeans! God's jeans, if you will. It all happened yesterday when my mother and I were looking in Forever New for some formal shoes. Sadly, the lady didn't have the shoes in my size (she had two left feet of the shoes). I was about to turn in when I saw a lovely, plain, perfect pair of black skinny jeans. They had very little detail, they were very black, they were a softer denim and they were quite short in the leg. Tried them on. Sucsess! I have been thinking about 'jeans outfits' ever since yesterday when I bought the glorious jeans. Here are some of my inspirations!
Right now I am thinking of rocking the 'canadian tuxedo' of double denim. But not in a seedy, double-acid-wash-and-rhinetones-80's way. Something like a chambray collared top with the black jeans is always classy I think. I am also looking forward to wearing big sweaters with peter pan collars poking out. Perhaps spotted collars? Maybe checkered? Also, striped tops. So many possibilities!

Unfortunatley, the condition of the jeans purchase was that my mother would buy them to store them away until my 18th birthday...which is on Thursday! It was about 6 degrees today, I would have loved to wear the jeans to work...but three more sleeps...yay!

I doubt that I have posted about her before, but after listening to her album "The milk-eyed mender" for the first time in a few months today I realized that I must post about my love for this woman.
Despite being a beautiful singer/songwriter just like Zooey, I doubt that they could be more different! Whereas Zooey is the crooning queen on the 21st century, Newsom has such a high-pitched, nasal-y voice. When my mum heard me listening to her she said "ok loren, why are you listening to a child singing?" and I suppose she does sound quite child-like. I like it! I love how soft and beautiful her harp playing is, and how it acts as such a lovely contrast to her loud voice. She just makes pretty, peaceful, hippy music that I love. Have a listen!I would recommend her songs: '81 (my favorite!), bridges and balloons and Sadie!

R o o m i n s p i r a t i o n ! ♥

Today I got told that (finally) my bedroom walls will be painted, completing that last step of the 7 month long renovation process on my house. I am happy to hear that I shall soon live in a room where my walls aren't black and dusty from the renovation times. I am also happy as I can commence decorating soon! Today I bought a lovely little crystal doe from the beautiful shop, Fleur Wood and I also got a Swedish toadstool stamp from Kikki K which I love. They shall be displayed shortly in my room!I am kind of wanting a white, clean Swedish aesthetic to my room with little IKEA-like floral fabrics, Dalahast figures (my dad has about 1000, I have had one in my room since I was born...he's such a swede) and white furniture.I don't just want a Swedish theme to my room, as I am particularly drawn to displaying my stationary in teapots, having doileys permanently out and having lots of granny pictures on the walls! (not pictures of grandma's, but pictures your grandma would like...like crochet mushrooms for example? Oh yes. Bought it last week).And all my furniture looks like they are french antiques. Such a random mix!

I love this new collection! I mean, any collection that previews with a Garden party has to be great! I loved Chloe Sevigney's last collection for OC, with my favourite piece being the leopard cardigan that has featured on this blog a few times. Therefore, I really like how the leopard print in a non-woggy way has repeated itself. I must say I prefer this collection to the last! I'm not normally one for prints, but these pieces are changing my mind. I love all the polka dots, the leopard print and that metallic brocade!

outfits that I shall steal!

At the moment, school has been generally rude and unforgiving. I am glad that I shall be finished with high school in a few short (who am I kidding- long) months!
As a result of this, I haven't really been able to get out to the shops much...I got to the markets a few weeks ago and got some amazing things ( an oversized emerald green tartan blazer, a nanna-approved vintage dress and a black shirt with a beaded collar + cuffs- perfect for the night times!)

Trolling through my favourite blogs, I have concluded that I don't care if it is cold as all hell outside- I will wear what I please. Right now, these pictures represent the purchases I wish to make. I have always love the 'cashe' look of a loose t-shirt with a skirt...so I think imma get myself a grey marle t-shirt.
Also on my list --- a new blue striped top (a la the third picture----god I love that outfit!) I already have a top like this from Sweden which is my favourite top, it just doesn't fit me nicely, so I plan on getting a better fitted one.
Also on my to- do style list --- Wear my hair in braids more! So pretty!!
